Urban Night Photography Tips

Urban Night Photography can be used to create mysterious and amazing photos. The long exposures associated with low light can create unique effects and unusually sharp photos. And when I say long exposures I mean exposures lasting from half a second up to even 15 – 30 seconds.

The urban night scenery mainly refers to the atmosphere at night. Variety of flashing neon signs, rows of street lights, the car lights on the road, as well as the light through windows in the rooms, they are colorful, and woven into a light of the world.

1. Equipment

For low light photos, a tripod is very necessary. Be it a normal one or a miniature one, they will save you lots of trouble. As mentioned too, a miniature tripod can be very handy because it is typically small enough to fit in a pants pocket so it can be taken anywhere.using a tripod is neccessary to avoid camera shake and get sharper pictures.

2.Exposure

This can be said to be the most challenging part of photo taking. In manual mode, it can be difficult to calculate the perfect exposure for the shot.so i personally think if the scene is mostly static one can approximatly judge the exposure and shoot few photos at various exposure by increasing the shutter speed as needed till you think you got the right exposure.

3. Camera mode

Always make a pracitce to shoot in manual mode to bring out the best your Dslr. shooting in manual mode will give you freedom to get more creative with your pictures.

4. Composition

Night photos do require a good deal of patience since you’ll be waiting some time for your photo to expose. Extra care is needed in setting the right settings. Using a flash when taking night photos can speed up the exposure time but it really depends on the type of photo you’re taking. Using the flash in the wrong situation may make your photographs dark.

5. Avoid Noise

Lastly, avoid noise in your photos by being very careful with your cameras ISO settings. The higher the ISO the less light is needed for the exposure. A thing to note is that noise will reduce the quality of your photos by making them less clear and sharp.
